eMastered Review (2026): Tested by a Mastering Engineer

The short verdict: eMastered is the best AI mastering tool for people who want some control over the result — reference-track matching, adjustable EQ and intensity, unlimited re-renders on a flat subscription — and it hits the same ceiling every algorithm hits: it optimizes your track toward safe, and safe is not how records stand out. 7/10 as a fast-iteration draft tool; 5/10 as the final master on a release you care about.

What eMastered actually is

A web-based AI mastering service from producers (its founders are known engineers/producers), priced around $29/month or discounted annually (verify current — pricing moves), with unlimited masters while subscribed. Upload a mix, get a master in under a minute, then — the part that separates it — adjust: overall intensity, EQ preferences, loudness, and crucially upload a reference track for the algorithm to chase. No distribution, no samples, no ecosystem: unlike LANDR's bundle, eMastered does exactly one job.

What it does genuinely well

Iteration speed. This is its real product. Render, tweak, re-render, compare — a feedback loop measured in seconds. While you're still finishing a mix, hearing "roughly mastered" versions this fast is legitimately useful for decision-making, the same way Reference Match is useful: fast objective feedback while your ears are hot.

The reference upload. Pointing the algorithm at a commercial track you love produces noticeably more intentional results than genre-preset AI mastering. It's the closest any AI tool gets to "master it like THIS" — which is exactly how loudness decisions should be made anyway.

Unlimited masters flat-rate. For demo-heavy producers, $29/month for unlimited drafts across a working month beats per-track pricing easily.

Where the ceiling is (and it's the same ceiling)

Run an already-good mix through it and A/B honestly at matched loudness:

• It's an averager. Character gets gently sanded toward the reference's frequency curve without understanding the reference's intent. It matches spectra, not decisions — the difference between measuring and mastering.
• Nobody stops you. The most valuable thing a human engineer says is "fix the mix first — the vocal's buried." eMastered masters the buried vocal, faster and louder than anyone.
• Density without stages. Push its loudness and you get limiter loudness, not the staged density (glue → saturation → limiting) that makes commercial records feel big rather than just loud.
• The catalog effect. Ten tracks in, one sonic fingerprint out. Fine for a demo folder; flattening for an EP that needs an arc.
