FL Studio Vocal Chain: Stock Plugins, in Order (2026)
A complete FL Studio vocal chain using stock plugins: Fruity Parametric EQ 2, Fruity Limiter in compressor mode, Fruity Compressor, Maximus for de-essing, Fruity Blood Overdrive, Fruity Delay 3, and Fruity Reeverb 2. The order that works, starting settings for each stage, and how to save it as a mixer track state.
The short answer: a professional FL Studio vocal chain needs nothing but stock plugins on one mixer insert, in this order: Fruity Parametric EQ 2 (high-pass and cleanup), Fruity Limiter in COMP mode (fast, for peaks), Fruity Compressor (slower, for leveling), a second Parametric EQ 2 (tone and air), Maximus with only the high band working (de-essing), and Fruity Blood Overdrive mixed in lightly (warmth). Delay and reverb go on separate mixer tracks as sends: Fruity Delay 3 and Fruity Reeverb 2. The order does more than the plugins: cleanup before compression, de-essing after it, and space on sends instead of on the vocal itself. Save the insert as a mixer track state and every session starts from the same chain.
This is the same structure I use on the vocals for my own releases (Sony, Universal, Ultra, Dim Mak), and the same one my Waves vocal chain is built around. FL's stock tools get underrated; they cover every stage.
The chain, in order
| Slot | Plugin | Job | Starting point |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Fruity Parametric EQ 2 | Clean up | High-pass 80 to 120 Hz, cut mud at 200 to 400 Hz by 2 to 4 dB |
| 2 | Fruity Limiter (COMP mode) | Catch peaks | Ratio 4:1, fast attack, short release, 2 to 4 dB of reduction on the loudest words |
| 3 | Fruity Compressor | Level the performance | Ratio 2:1, attack around 10 ms, release around 100 ms, 2 to 3 dB of reduction |
| 4 | Fruity Parametric EQ 2 | Tone + air | Broad +1 to 2 dB around 3 to 5 kHz, gentle high shelf above 10 kHz |
| 5 | Maximus | De-ess | Only the high band active (around 5 kHz and up), compress esses 2 to 4 dB |
| 6 | Fruity Blood Overdrive | Warmth + density | Low pre-amp, mix it in subtly; you should feel it more than hear it |
| Send A | Fruity Delay 3 | Delay | Tempo-synced 1/8 dotted or 1/4, filtered, low feedback |
| Send B | Fruity Reeverb 2 | Space | Plate-style, short to medium decay, pre-delay 30 to 80 ms, high-passed |
Exact delay and pre-delay times for your tempo are in the delay and reverb calculator.
Stage notes
Two compressors beat one. The Fruity Limiter in COMP mode is a fast, clean peak catcher, so the Fruity Compressor behind it can level the vocal gently. Each does a little; together the vocal sits forward without sounding squashed. The settings are covered in depth in how to compress vocals.
De-essing in FL. The classic stock route is Maximus with the low and mid bands bypassed and only the high band compressing, set to the range where your esses live. It goes after the compressors because compression brings sibilance up. Keep Maximus away from its loud presets here; on a vocal it should only touch the esses.
Air goes after control. Boosting the top before compression means the compressor reacts to the boost. Shape tone once the dynamics are steady; how to add air to vocals covers the shelf, and how to EQ vocals covers the full frequency map.
Saturation is seasoning. Blood Overdrive gets aggressive fast. Keep the drive low and treat it as density, not distortion. What saturation actually does explains why a little goes a long way.
Sends: delay and reverb on their own mixer tracks
- Create two free mixer tracks and name them Vocal Delay and Vocal Reverb.
- Put Fruity Delay 3 on one and Fruity Reeverb 2 on the other, both 100% wet.
- Route the vocal insert to both and use the send level on each routing cable to set how much goes in. The dry vocal keeps its own path to the master.
- High-pass both returns around 250 to 400 Hz so the effects never add mud under the voice.
- Duck the delay from the vocal. Put Fruity Limiter in COMP mode on the delay track and sidechain it from the vocal, so the echoes drop while the words play and bloom in the gaps. The full method is in how to sidechain a delay.
Space on sends instead of on the vocal track is the single biggest difference between a demo vocal and a finished one. How to use delay on vocals covers which times to pick and when.
Save it as a mixer track state
Once the insert sounds right, open the mixer track menu and save the mixer track state. Next session, load it onto a fresh insert and the whole chain, in order, comes back with your settings. If you want a cleaner front panel, wrap the insert plugins in Patcher and map the controls you actually touch: high-pass frequency, compression amount, air, saturation mix.
Tuning comes first
If you tune, it goes before this chain. FL's Pitcher and NewTone handle it in the editions that include them, and any third-party tuner works in the same first slot. How to tune vocals covers when to use real-time correction and when to edit note by note.
What a chain can't do
It can't fix a bad recording. Room echo and clipping come through every chain, so record it clean first, and balance the vocal against the beat in context rather than in solo. For rap specifically, the rap vocal chain shows how to push the same stages firmer.
A finished vocal chain, today
My own vocal chain, built and gain-staged with 8 macros (Low Cut, Glue, Air, Reverb, Delay, Slap, FX, Widener) and a parallel split, is available now for Waves, and it runs in FL Studio through the free StudioVerse plugin. If you own the Waves plugins it uses, the Ultimate Vocal Chain replaces this whole build with one insert. The same chain for Ableton and Logic stock users is covered in those guides.
Runs inside FL Studio
THE ULTIMATE VOCAL CHAIN
15 Waves plugins in one StudioVerse file, a serial core plus a parallel split, 8 macros. Loads on an FL Studio mixer insert like any other plugin.

What is the best vocal chain in FL Studio? Parametric EQ 2 cleanup, Fruity Limiter in COMP mode for peaks, Fruity Compressor for leveling, Parametric EQ 2 for tone, Maximus for de-essing, Blood Overdrive for warmth, with Fruity Delay 3 and Fruity Reeverb 2 on send tracks.
How do I de-ess vocals in FL Studio with stock plugins? Use Maximus with only the high band active, set to the sibilance range, and compress the esses 2 to 4 dB. Place it after compression.
Should reverb go on the vocal insert in FL Studio? No. Put reverb and delay on their own mixer tracks at 100% wet and send the vocal to them. The dry vocal stays clear and you control the space with one send level.
How do I save a vocal chain in FL Studio? Save the mixer track state from the mixer track menu, then load it onto any insert in a new project. Patcher lets you add macro-style controls on top.
