How Many Streams to Make $1,000? Every Platform, Plus $100 to $5,000 Milestones (2026)
How many streams it takes to earn $1,000 on Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, Amazon Music, Deezer and Tidal in 2026, a milestone chart for $100, $500, $1,000 and $5,000, what changes if you're signed, and how to turn it into a monthly target.
The short answer: you need roughly 286,000 Spotify streams to make $1,000, about 128,000 on Apple Music, and about 80,000 on Tidal. Averaged across the six major platforms it's about 152,000 streams. That's the master royalty to an independent artist who owns the recording; signed at a typical 20% royalty, multiply by five, so about 760,000 streams for the same $1,000, before recoupment. These are estimates. Per-stream payouts change with listener country, subscription tier, and year.
To run any goal, any country, any platform, use goal mode in the streaming royalty calculator. Type the dollar figure and it returns the streams you need per platform, per month and per day.
I've collected royalties on 50M+ streams as an independent artist. The numbers below come from the same rates the calculator uses, so the table and the tool always agree.
Streams needed for $1,000, by platform
| Platform | Est. per stream | Streams for $1,000 | Streams for $1,000 if signed (~20%) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Spotify | ~$0.0035 | ~286,000 | ~1.43M |
| Amazon Music | ~$0.0045 | ~222,000 | ~1.11M |
| YouTube Music | ~$0.0048 | ~208,000 | ~1.04M |
| Deezer | ~$0.0064 | ~156,000 | ~781,000 |
| Apple Music | ~$0.0078 | ~128,000 | ~641,000 |
| Tidal | ~$0.0125 | ~80,000 | ~400,000 |
| Average of all six | ~$0.0066 | ~152,000 | ~760,000 |
The "signed" column is the same streams with a label owning the master and paying you about 20% of net. It's covered in detail in how much record labels take.
YouTube Music here means plays on the YouTube Music service. Regular YouTube video views pay much less per view, collected through Content ID, so a viral video can rack up views and still pay a small check.

| Amazon Music | ~22,200 | ~111,000 | ~222,000 | ~1.11M |
| YouTube Music | ~20,800 | ~104,000 | ~208,000 | ~1.04M |
| Deezer | ~15,600 | ~78,000 | ~156,000 | ~781,000 |
| Apple Music | ~12,800 | ~64,000 | ~128,000 | ~641,000 |

| Average of all six | ~15,200 | ~76,000 | ~152,000 | ~759,000 |
Two things to notice. Tidal pays about 3.5 times what Spotify does per stream, but most artists get a small fraction of their streams there, so it rarely moves the total. And the jump from $1,000 to $5,000 is exactly five times the streams. There's no volume discount; every dollar costs the same number of plays.
Your real number is probably closer to Spotify's
The "average of all six" row treats every platform equally. Real audiences don't split that way. For many independent artists, Spotify is the majority of streams, so the effective rate sits closer to Spotify's than to the average.
Here's a hypothetical mix to show the effect: 70% Spotify, 15% Apple Music, 5% YouTube Music, 5% Amazon, 3% Deezer, 2% Tidal. That blends to about $0.0045 per stream, which means roughly 221,000 streams for $1,000, not 152,000. Pull your own platform split from your distributor's statement and weight the rates the same way, or use the calculator's per-platform rows.
Listener country moves it the other way. The calculator models US listeners at about 30% above the global average, so a mostly US audience needs fewer streams: about 220,000 on Spotify instead of 286,000 for $1,000.
$1,000 once vs $1,000 a month
$1,000 total and $1,000 a month are very different targets.
- $1,000 total is a catalog milestone. 286,000 Spotify streams across all your releases, over whatever time it takes.
- $1,000 a month means about 152,000 streams every month at the six-platform average, roughly 5,100 a day. On Spotify alone it's about 286,000 a month, or 9,500 a day.
- Payment lag. Distributors usually pay a couple of months after the streams happen, so a monthly target shows up in your account later than it shows up in your stats.
- The threshold. Since 2024, Spotify doesn't pay recording royalties on tracks under 1,000 streams in the previous 12 months, so streams on very small tracks don't count toward the goal at all.
For bigger monthly targets, rent money, a salary, a full-time living, how many streams to make a living has the table.

- Own your masters. It's the difference between 152,000 streams and 760,000 for the same money. How to own your masters covers it.
- Collect the publishing side. The table is master royalties only. Songwriting royalties come through a PRO and mechanical collection, separately from your distributor. How streaming royalties work has the checklist.
- Release consistently. A catalog earning steadily beats one release and a wait. How to release music independently is my system.
- Grow listeners in higher-paying markets. Same streams, bigger pool. How to get more monthly listeners on Spotify covers the growth side.
- Stack a second income stream. A few sales of a product or a single mixing job can match tens of thousands of streams. How to make money with music maps the options.
When you've got a target in mind, put it into the calculator with your audience's country and see the stream count for your situation instead of a global average.
Quick answers
How many Spotify streams do you need to make $1,000? About 286,000 at a global-average rate of ~$0.0035 per stream, or about 220,000 with a mostly US audience. Estimates vary by country, subscription tier, and year.
How many streams to make $1,000 a month? About 152,000 a month using the average of the six major platforms, or about 286,000 a month on Spotify alone. That's roughly 5,100 to 9,500 streams a day.
How many streams does it take to make $100? About 28,600 on Spotify, 12,800 on Apple Music, and about 15,200 at the six-platform average.
Which platform needs the fewest streams to make $1,000? Tidal, at about 80,000 streams, then Apple Music at about 128,000. Spotify needs the most per dollar but usually delivers the most streams.
